Caregiver with Woman in Wheelchair

Why is it so important to work with an experienced elder law attorney to create a plan on your behalf? Consider the following statistics:

  • Approximately one out of every two women, and one out of four men, will need nursing home care at some point in their lives
  • Nursing home care in Southern California averages between $5,931.25 to $8,760.00 a year. In some situations, the cost is even higher
  • Approximately two out of three families exhaust their life savings within a year or two of a family member entering a nursing home

Long-Term Care Planning

Long-term care planning, also known as proactive planning, is for people who are healthy now but are concerned about preparing for the possibility that they will need long-term care in the future. We can work closely with you to develop a customized plan to protect your life savings in the event of incapacity and the need for nursing home or assisted living care. The plan we create can protect your savings for the benefit of your well-spouse and other loved ones, as well as help you become eligible for Medi-Cal assistance without spending down all of your assets.

Coping with a Medi-Cal crisis situation

Medicaid is now the largest provider of financial assistance for residents of nursing homes in the United States. (In California, Medicaid is known as Medi-Cal.) When assistance from Medi-Cal is denied, it results in what is commonly called a Medi-Cal crisis. We define a Medi-Cal crisis as a situation where an individual has already entered a nursing home, or must do so in the very near future, and been informed that he or she owns too many assets to qualify for assistance from Medi-Cal. When you consider the high cost of long-term care, it is easy to see why denial of Medi-Cal assistance is indeed a financial crisis for the majority of families.

If you or someone you love is facing a Medi-Cal crisis, contact our office as soon as possible. We can determine if you are eligible for assistance. We can help you obtain that assistance as quickly as possible. You are not alone during this difficult time. We welcome the opportunity to assist you and your family. We serve clients in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and throughout Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
