Veterans Aid & Attendance
Benefits Attorney

Millions of veterans and spouses are eligible for Veterans Benefits but don’t receive them even though they’re entitled to them. There are several reasons for this, including lack of information about the benefits available, confusion over eligibility requirements, and a complex approval process. Sadly, one of the least utilized benefits available, Aid and Attendance, is also one of the most valuable.

The Aid and Attendance Pension Program

An eligible veteran can receive more than $23,000 per year for assistance with medical expenses and long-term care through the Aid and Attendance pension program. An eligible veteran’s widowed spouse can receive more than $12,500 annually. The Aid and Attendance benefit can be used to pay anyone for home care, including the eligible veteran’s child. It can also be used to help pay for professional care in the home, nursing home care, and assisted living. By utilizing the Aid and Attendance benefit, an eligible veteran or widowed spouse can remain in his or her home for as long as possible and protect assets against the high cost of long-term care.

Eligibility requirements for Aid and Attendance include, but are not limited to:

  • 90 days or more of active duty, with at least one day during a period of wartime
  • A discharge other than dishonorable
  • The veteran or spouse must have medical expenses
  • Applicants must pass an asset and income test
